Why Some Parents Fail - Part 6

Some parents fail because they are - Not Committed
The story is told about a farmer walking over his farm with a friend.  The friend went on about his healthy & fine flock of sheep.  The friend finally asked the farmer, "How have you succeeded is raising such a flock?"  Farmer simply answered, "I take care of my sheep."  The difference of the sheep was that the farmer was committed to them.
People in general seem to be scared of the word commitment.  It is not that they can't be committed, just not committed to things that are important.  The same people are easily committed to their favorite TV show.  They never miss one episode.  They refuse to schedule anything in the time slot of the night that their show comes on.  They will take all necessary actions to make sure that supper is taken care of & the children are put to bed, so as not to distract from their program.  They cut their phone off & shut all the lights off so no one will knock on their door.  They are committed to it.
People are committed to deer season, their favorite sport or sports team.  They can tell you all about the latest design to improve your game.  They can give you the stats, averages, over/under's, and who was traded last week but, have not one idea what their children are struggling with in school.  They are committed to certain things but not the important things.  Not committed to the things that will matter for both time & eternity.
If you are committed to your children, then you will do what it takes to get the job done.  Committed parents will do what it take to have a "Family Altar" with your children.  A time when you read the Bible, sing, take prayer requests, and pray together.  Committed parents will do what it takes to have your children in Church.  Have them actively involved in a local, New Testament, Fundamental, Bible Believing, Bible Preaching Church.  Committed parents will do what it takes to instill character, discipline, and integrity into their children.  They won't just talk about it in front of others to try to impress.  They will put it into action in the home.  By the way.  Don't expect a Christian School or Local Church to resurrect things in your child's life that have been put to death in the home.  It does not work that way.  Our children need and deserve to have committed parents.
