Have you ever known someone who had everything going for them but when you look at their life 10-20 yrs. down the road it seems that they have ended up in the ditch. A life that was so promising and had every one's vote for most likely to succeed turns out to be a shipwreck at best. It will make you scratch your head and say, "How did that happen".
I've seen people that have had far more experience than myself, far more natural talent than myself, a far better upbringing than myself that, without a doubt, God could be using in His service. But, the same person that had such promise seems to throw their life away, living for themselves and not giving one thought about God. The same people that used to say, "I wish I could be like him/her", are now saying, "I'm glad that I'm not them". Where did they go wrong, what got them in such a tangled mess?
Most of the time it boils down to one thing, DECISIONS! Now, that is not to say that every person that ends up this way makes bad decisions. Some folks have had such devastating things come upon their lives that they have had nothing short of a mental breakdown. But, that is the exception and not the rule. Bad decisions have ruined many peoples lives. I'm not talking about decisions like, I should have had the single instead of the double at Wendy's. I talking about decisions that can truly affect you & your family in a negative way.
The first kind of decision that you need to think about is a Hefty Decision. Proverbs 11:14 says, "Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety." Hefty decisions are those things that you do not want to get wrong. These are the ones that you want to get some good counsel before you make them. For instance, some people comparison shop. They get online and study all the different types & styles, the ups & downs, the prices and who has it the cheapest & eventually come to the place of decision. Usually this person is well pleased with the decision they have made and the product performs like they want. The key is that they didn't make a blind eyed decision. They didn't just flip a coin a say I'll take that one.
There are some decisions in life that people make blind eyed and end up on the short end of the stick but can't figure out why. The answer usually leads back to just one major decision that was made w/out some good godly counsel. That is why you need to stay in the Bible & in a Bible Preaching, Bible Teaching, Bible Believing Church. In the midst of these, you'll find much wise counsel. In the midst of these you'll find the safety of the Lord. And, by making a good decision on a major issue of life, you will save yourself from having the worry and burden of having to make a lot of little decisions along the way. By making a good decision on major things you all but and sometimes totally remove the little decisions.
For instance, I chose a long time ago to abstain from alcohol. I saw what the Bible had to say on the issue and I took a Biblical position on the matter. Because of that 1 good decision, there have been a lot of little, worrisome decisions I have not had to make. I don't have to worry whether or not if I've had too much. I don't have to worry about who will drive me home. I don't have to worry about driving while impaired and killing an innocent family. I don't have to worry if my boss will smell the alcohol on me or not. I don't have to worry about my children picking up the habit from watching their Daddy. I don't have to worry about the children getting into my "stash". All of that worry brings not 1 bit of it's awful baggage into my life because of 1 right decision in 1 major area.
