In my last blog, I began talking about the reason why some parents fail. I suggest that you read that blog if you didn't get a chance, so that you will get the whole picture of what I am trying to say. Here is the first reason that I want to mention.
Parents Fail because they are - Not Converted
One thing is for sure. You will not get far in raising a child for the Lord if you don't know the Lord personally. How are you going to teach a child about someone that you don't even know. You may read a few books on the subject and even learn some Bible verses but if you are not a born again child of God, then you can't succeed in raising them for God.
That does not mean that you can't raise a "good" or a "well mannered" child, but you won't raise a godly child. An unsaved parent is missing the main ingredient to success. That is the Holy Spirit.
God gives every Christian the wonderful gift of the indwelling Holy Spirit of God. The Bible clearly teaches that if you do not have the Holy Spirit in you, then you do not belong to God (Rom. 8:9-11, I Cor. 3:16, 6:19, Gal. 4:6, II Tim. 1:14). Without the Holy Spirit you do not have the guidance that you need. God gave us the Holy Spirit to convict of sin, righteousness, and judgment (John 16:8-10). Without the Holy Spirit's, you will be leading and guiding according to "your way". Proverbs 21:2 says "Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts." Your way doesn't call sin for what it really is. You and I like to consider ourselves righteous but God says that our righteousness is as "filthy rags". The truth of the matter is that we don't see things like God does.
We must realize that all of this affects not just our thoughts & decisions in life, but it also affects our children's lives. If you don't have a full understanding of what God says is right and wrong nor the leadership of God's Spirit to convict you of what is right and wrong, then how can you teach your children in a way that is pleasing to God. You can't!
